The Forgotten Ninth Planet of the 19th Century!

It is well known that our planetary system has eight official members.

Starting from the sun, these are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. A glance at the recent past is enough to see that this combination of celestial bodies is not an immutable constellation.

Accordingly, our terrestrial definition of the planetary system is always dependent on our current scientific knowledge. As a result, today’s dwarf planet Pluto was a permanent representative of our ancestral planetary system until 2006.

It was only when the experts fundamentally renewed the definition of planets that the object in the Kuiper belt was classified in a different class of celestial bodies.

What very few people know: Pluto should not be the only celestial body in human history to suffer such a fate. Accordingly, many researchers in the 19th century were convinced that the planet Vulcanus would also be an integral part of our galactic neighborhood.

What this fascinating celestial body is all about, and what circumstances ultimately led to the planet disappearing from the star maps, you can find out in our following Post!
