Rock samples from the 2.9-million-year-old Pongola Supergroup (PNG2, PNG3, and Klipwal Mine) had some of the lowest levels of oxygen-18 when compared to other shales and diamictites used to study the evolution of early Earth. (Bindeman & Hofmann, Geochemical Perspectives Letters, 2023)
